Wild Moccasins 1/10/09
The Wild Moccasins are an up and coming indie pop/rock band out of Houston, TX. After hearing the first tune from these guys, we wanted to share them with you. They were kind enough to sit down and answer a few questions via e-mail about their new album, the Houston music scene and puking in small crowds...
How long have you guys been playing music together?
It has just been a little over a year.
Is there a story behind your name?
There isn't a good story behind the name. Zahira and myself (Cody) thought they were two words that fit
perfectly together and would fit the music we played as well.
Do you have any outside influences when your in a creative state of mind?
As far as writing goes I (Cody) just take a lot from just what i see around me. Words and objects that strike my interest, Pretty boring stuff haha. Musically I can't speak for everyone cause we all have pretty different tastes, but we are all joined in our love for great pop music.
What is the music scene like in Houston,TX?
It is a really supportive; very tight-knit group of people/bands/writers that help to make up a pretty cozy music scene. Everyone helps each other out a great deal, whether its through equipment use or setting up great shows together. There is a great pop scene here in Houston with a bunch of up and coming bands that are feeding off of each others creativity and constantly working to get out new songs and releases. It is definetly a music scene that people should be watching. We have some really good festivals that are growing each year as well.
What is your process of writing songs?
I (Cody) usually write a chord progression/song structure and lyrics, then zahira and myself will work on some melodies together and bring in a skeleton of a song to the band. From there the song a lot of times grows into something a lot different from where we started, but always for the better we think.
You have a new album coming out. Where did you record the album? How was the experience?
We recorded the album at Dead City Sounds here in Houston. The experience was a good one, but I think in the future we definetly want to be able to put more time into recording. This time around we only spent 3 days recording and 1 day for mixing.
Any tour plans to promote the new record?
We definetly do. We are planning an east coast tour this summer during June that we are starting to set up now.
Is there anything else you'd like to share (secrets, hidden talents, etc...)
Once Andrew Lee (lead guitar) managed to puke and hide the fact that
he did while hanging out in a room of friends.
They were none the wiser.
